QAUQAUT

Excerpts from Wikipedia.org

The Qauqaut (猴猴) are a Taiwanese aboriginal people who live primarily in Su-ao, Yilan. According to Ino Kanori, the Qauqaut people were assimilated by the Kavalan people.

Kanori Ino (伊能嘉矩, Ino Kanori, June 11, 1867 - September 30, 1925), born in Iwate, Japan, was a Japanese anthropologist and folklorist known for his studies in Taiwanese Aborigines. Ino was the first person who classified the aboriginal tribes into several groups, instead of the traditional classification which imprecisely recognized these aborigines only as Shoufan (熟番) and Shengfan (生番).

猴猴族(Qauqaut)為台灣平埔族原住民,聚居於宜蘭蘇澳一帶。根據伊能嘉矩的調查,猴猴族是被噶瑪蘭族所同化消失。
